Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in the United States. Half of all men and one third of all women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer.

Caring for people with cancer means expert physicians and staff fighting the disease with the most advanced techniques and equipment. At Good Samaritan Hospital, it also means meeting the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of each patient and his/her family. Our goal is to treat the person, not just the disease.

In many ways, the treatment of cancer in Cincinnati is fairly equal across all hospitals and physician practices. But Good Samaritan Hospital doesn’t want to be equal; we want to distinguish ourselves from other providers by focusing on the development of oncologic surgery and genetic testing and screening.

We hope to achieve this goal by developing the following:

Multidisciplinary Breast Center – coordination of all of the specialists so that the patient can come to one location and see the surgeon, radiation oncologist, medical oncologist and radiologist.

Women’s Center – expansion of our services to include colorectal oncologic surgery.

Neuro-Oncology – Good Samaritan Hospital is one of six centers nationally participating in a study of blood brain barrier disruption. We want to continue this work and expand into new concepts.

Genetic Testing – ability to perform sophisticated DNA techniques which will further characterize cancers and allow for more individualized patient therapy.
